About The Wizard of Paws
The Wizard of Paws specializes in treating D.W.I.'s (Dogs With Issues). We use humane, dog-friendly training methods to help your dog overcome his/her fears and issues. A D.W.I. may never be an off-leash dog kind of dog. They may never be able to have play dates with the neighbors' dogs or attend a doggy daycare. But, with compassionate and patient training, they WILL become what you wanted...a wonderful companion animal for you and your family, one that you can take on walks without fear of their lunging out. You can have friends over without fearing that your dog will try to bite them. We will find out what triggers your dog has and work with them rather than against them. By providing alternate, accpetable behaviours, we will help your dog overcome his/her anxieties and fears.
All lessons are private, one-on-one sessions. Training starts at your home, eventually moving to mutually-agreed upon neutral locations. Starting the training at the dog's home reduces the stress level. Once the problem can be successfully managed at home, it will be time to "take it on the road." I ask that only 1 person work the dog in the beginning of the training sessions. This will ensure a constant, level force for the dog, avoiding the confusion of working with multiple people who may not all use the same commands for the same meanings. The cost for the program is $50 per hour.
- Chaos (above) an Anatolian Shepherd/Rottweiler cross that I adopted from the Calgary Humane Society is the reason for my interest in working with D.W.I.'s. Havoc (below) a Jack Russell Terrier enforced my belief that training with humane methods works!
